August 29, 2012 Bento

I’m still on the quinoa kick!

Today’s bento consists of quinoa with grape tomatoes.  I’ve also paired red bell peppers and carrots with ranch dressing.  I’m hungry just thinking about it!

I hope that later this week I can start to offer Kawaii bento photos to share…guess I have to get up earlier in the morning!

August 28, 2012 Bento

Last night I cooked a lot of quinoa, so I’ll be set for the rest of the week!  If you have never had quinoa before, I would recommend that you try it.  Quinoa is a seed that is prepared like whole grains, like rice or millet.  Quinoa cooks quickly (you can even cook it in a rice cooker – which is my preferred method), and it is high in protein.

My bento today was central around my abundance of quinoa.  I mixed quinoa with red kidney beans to be the main part of my lunch.  I also included red seedless grapes as well as dried tropical pineapple with vanilla yogurt-covered raisins.

August 27, 2012 Bento

It’s back to the grind for me on a rainy Monday.
Today’s bento is comprised of a fruits and vegetable.  The first layer of my bento consists of diced orange bell pepper, diced celery stalk, and grape tomatoes.  The second layer of my bento consists of half a navel orange and red seedless grapes.  I balanced it out with a cup of brown rice.

August 21, 2012 Bento

It occurred to me today that I should merge my separate efforts into one.  I typically post pictures of my bento-style lunches on Twitter.  I occasionally will blog about food I’ve eaten or taste-tests between similar establishments.  So today, I bring them together as a reinvention to discuss my bento lunches.
Today’s bento is comprised of a salad, grapes, oranges, and shrimp ramen noodles.  The salad is a combination of romaine lettuce, beefsteak tomatoes, celery, and green peppers.  The salad is topped with a lite Italian dressing.
It was very yummy and very filling!
